Questions and instructions
First I would like to ask some questions about you. For most of the time until you were 12 years old, did you live in a city, in a town/poblacion, or in the barrio/rural area?

Warning: these figures indicate the number of cases found in the data file. They cannot be interpreted as summary statistics of the population of interest.
Record the respondent's answer about the type of place he lived in for most of the time as a young boy. What is asked here is the type of place, not the name of the place. If he gives a name of the place, probe by saying "Was (NAME) a city, a town/poblacion, or in a barrio/rural area?" Also, it may be that he is currently living in the place he grew up in but that the area has grown from being a town when he was young to a city today. Or it may have been rural then but it is a town now. In either case, circle whatever type of place it was when he was a young boy. What is asked here is the place he lived in for most of the time. If he lived in more than one place before the age 12, ask him in which place he lived the longest.
Note: If the area identified is already converted or classified differently (that is, formerly a town but it is now a city) consider its classification on its previous status when respondent was still living in that place.
