Questions and instructions
How many boys have died?
IF NONE, RECORD '00'.
IF NONE, RECORD '00'.
If the answer in Q.206 is “YES”, ask the number of dead children by sex and record in the appropriate boxes in Q.207.
Some respondents may fail to mention children who died very young so if she answers “NO” in Q.206, it is important to probe by asking "Any baby who cried or showed signs of life but survived only a few hours or days?" Some respondents may be reluctant to talk about this subject and may become sad or upset that you are asking such questions. Be sympathetic and tactful in such situations. Say that you know that the subject is painful, but that the information is important.
