Warning: these figures indicate the number of cases found in the data file. They cannot be interpreted as summary statistics of the population of interest.
There may be times when an interpreter is needed to rephrase the questions to fit to local dialects and culture. It is very important, however, not to change the meaning of the question when rephrasing or interpreting it into another dialect.
If both the repsondent and the interviewer cannot speak a common dialect, another household member who understands or who can speak a dialect both of them can understand may be asked to serve as the respondent. The supervisor may also assign a different interviewer to conduct the interview. A third person (translator) may also be tapped in extreme cases.
