If both the repsondent and the interviewer cannot speak a common dialect, another household member who understands or who can speak a dialect both of them can understand may be asked to serve as the respondent. The supervisor may also assign a different interviewer to conduct the interview. A third person (translator) may also be tapped in extreme cases.

Description
Language of the interview - refers to language or dialect the respondent prefers or is most comfortable using.
The questionnaires for the NDHS have been translated from English into six major local dialects, namely, Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilocano, Bicol, Hiligaynon, and Waray.
The coding system used were as follows:
1 - Tagalog
2 - Cebuano
3 - Ilocano
4 - Bicol
5 - Hiligaynon
6 - Waray
7 - English
8 - Others (specify)
